Since originally defending the leaders of the Black Panthers in the late ’60s and early ’70s, attorney Williams has enjoyed a celebrated and controversial legal career defending a wide variety of citizens against criminal charges and by fighting for their civil rights.

His criminal defense career includes the Lorne Acquin mass murder cases in Prospect, Connecticut, and members of the Black Liberation Army and Los Macheteros. In over 50 years of legal experience, he has argued thousands of cases in state and federal court and argued before the United States Supreme Court.

Additionally, John R. Williams has also developed a significant reputation as a civil rights attorney fighting for the rights of prisoners and victims of police brutality and misconduct. Mr. Williams has also argued before the United States Supreme Court in Porter v. Nussle 534 U.S. 516 (2002) and many cases in the United States Court of Appeals.

Lawyer Williams has also advanced the fight for worker’s rights through his work using antidiscrimination laws such as U.S.C. Title 42 § 1983 and Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
